CEO Address on CUH Green Campus
I am delighted to welcome you to the Sustainable Healthcare & Living pages which will inform you on the efforts that we at Cork University Hospital are making to promote sustainable healthcare and to raise environmental awareness in the hospital to improve the environment and meet our community and corporate responsibilities.
In October 2014 we achieved Green Campus status from An Taisce and the Foundation for Environmental Education. In doing so, Cork University Hospital Campus became the first healthcare institution in the world to ‘fly the Green Flag’ and be seen to ‘practice what it preaches’ in ensuring a sustainable environment for all.
While environmental initiatives have been on-going in CUH for many years, involving both staff and student activities, this co-ordinated approach ensures that we capture what has been taking place and what still needs to be done. This will result in CUH maximising our commitment to sustainable healthcare and the Green Campus Programme.
I am fully committed to further developing a Green Campus for the hospital. It is an important objective and one in which the hospital must play a leading role as one of the leaders in Irish healthcare servicing the people of the south of Ireland. I invite you to take some time to peruse these web pages and learn of the great work taking place in CUH and how you can participate in helping us improve the environment for everybody.
