Midwifery Education Programmes at CUMH

Midwifery/Nursing education programmes are delivered in partnership with the Nursing and Midwifery Department at University College Cork. The provision of a quality clinical learning environment is fundamental to the success of these programmes. In order to achieve this, the undergraduate and post graduate programmes are supported by the Midwifery Practice Development Team.


cme prospectus 2015-2016Welcome to the 9th edition of the Prospectus for Continuing Education  for the Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) - September 2015 - 2016.  This has been developed by the staff of the Centre of Midwifery Education. The educational programmes identified within the prospectus are intended to develop and enhance your knowledge, skills and awareness with the ultimate aim of enhancing professional practice and the care provided to women, their babies and families.  Details regarding the CME staff and how to contact them are provided as well as the application process for all of the programmes outlined within the prospectus.

 Undergraduate B.Sc. Midwifery Programme

The clinical component of the four year B. Sc. Midwifery programme is supported by:

  • The Allocations Liaison Officer Rosaline O'Donovan who is responsible for allocating students at CUMH.  
  • The Clinical Placement Co-ordinators Deirdre McNamara, Una Quill and Breda Hayes are responsible for supporting students to achieve the standards set by An Bord Altranais.

Post Graduate Higher Diploma in Midwifery

Since September 2008 the Midwifery Practice Development Team has undertaken responsibility for the eighteen month post graduate Higher Diploma in Midwifery. This is co-ordinated by the Clinical Co-ordinator Fiona Kirby. This programme is available to qualified nurses who wish to pursue a midwifery qualification.
