All patient meals are produced in the main kitchen and transported to wards in food trolleys. The meals are kept hot by means of a heated base. At ward level facilities are available for preparation of tea, coffee, toast and snacks e.g. biscuits, yogurts, crackers.
A variety of special diets are requested daily by wards for patients and a dedicated team of chefs cater for these including: Low Cholesterol, Diabetic, Renal & Coeliac.
In total approximately 650 meals are served for breakfast, lunch and supper, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The catering department liases closely with Nursing, Dietetics and Speech & Language Therapists aswell as other support services to ensure all patients nutritional needs and preferences are satisfied.

The staff canteen seats 650 people. The opening hours are as follows:
Mon-Fri 07:30-14:30 17:30-19:00 Night Meal 01:00-02:00
Weekends& Bank Hols 08:00-14:30 Night Meal 01:00-02:00
A full range of meals are provided, including hot breakfast, made to order sandwich bar at lunch and a choice of hot meals for both lunch and evening. It is estimated that approx 1500 people use the staff facilities daily.
