The Division was established in October 2001. Dr. Barry Plant, Consultant Respiratory Physician, is the present Chairperson of the Division. The other members of the core divisional team are; Ms. Siobhan Scanlon, Nurse Services Manager, and Ms. Annemarie Fanning, SSB Representative.
The group meet fortnightly to discuss operational issues relevant to the division of Internal Medicine. At present the division’s consultant group meets on a 4-6 weekly basis. It is at this forum that key strategic decisions in terms of focus and priorities from a budgetary and service perspective for the division are taken.
The division also has a mechanism to meet and collaborate with other key members of the divisional team. This is facilitated through an annual schedule of meetings with other members aligned to providing a service in the division including, NCHD’s, CNM2’s, Nurse Specialists, support services staff and administrative staff.
Dr. Plant represents the division at the chairs of division’s forum. The core group team members report to the EMB on a quarterly basis. The division strives towards excellence in the provision and delivery of patient care services and actively participates in the hospitals accreditation programme.
Through 2009 the divisional structure will be reconfigured to reflect Clinical Directorates. The division of Internal Medicine is integral to this change process in a large Medical Directorate.
