CUH 2nd Perioperative Study Day 2016

Cork University Hospital (CUH) hosted its 2nd Perioperative Study Day on Saturday the 11th June, 2016. The theme of the conference was “Quality - The Cornerstone of Progressive Perioperative Practice”, and this was represented throughout the day in the diverse topics presented.  Presentations now available below.

The conference attracted a large attendance this year, from nurses and allied health professionals working in the Perioperative Environment from all regions of the country.

Ms. Mary Owens, Director of Nursing in CUH, provided the welcome address followed by the key note speaker Ms. Maureen Flynn Quality Improvement Division Lead Governance and Engagement for Quality), who introduced the Framework for Improving Quality in the HSE to a captive audience.

Enhanced recovery, acute head injury, obesity in pregnancy and endovascular surgery were issues covered by Anaesthetic and Surgical colleagues in CUH. The Perioperative nursing presentations put a focus on robotic surgery, electro-surgical safety, obstructed airway management in children & the journey in the development of the Hybrid theatre suite in CUH.

Ms. Katrina Sugrue (HIQA) presented the Operating Theatre healthcare associated infection findings for 2015; with Ms. Anne Power (Wellness at Work) outlining a strategy to manage stress in our lives at the close of the study day.

The closing address was given by Ms. Kathy Healy (Acting Clinical Facilitator) who commended the success of the study day and its positive impact on Perioperative nursing.
