1st Annual Patient Pathway Symposium 2015, Thursday 12th March 2015 This symposium provided an opportunity from the experience of implementing change in the patient pathway in order to improve performance. The symposium got underway with an introduction from Mr. Tony McNamara, CEO. This was followed by a presentation from Ms. Lilly Walsh, Business Analysts who gave a presentation on the how the study was carried out using lean six sigma principles. Ms Sonya Cotter, Bed Manager, CUH presented on the Visual Hospital which works by visualising patient demand for discharge and acting upon this demand. The next presentation from Ms. Mary Owens, Director of Nursing, Mallow General Hospital, provided and overview of the Model 2 Hospital and the positive contribution they can make to patient care and patient flows across a group of hospitals. The next presentation from Mr. Damian McGovern, Business Manager, CUH and Mr. Gavin Keogh, Business Information Analyst/Programmer, Mercy University Hospital provided an analysis of the Ambulance Pathway to include the targets and Key Performance Indicators to be achieved. The next presentation facilitated by Dr. Des Fitzgerald, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, University Hospital Waterford, provided an update on the linkages between Patient Pathways and the Emergency Medicine Programme. Dr. Fitzgerald followed with a presentation on the University Hospital Waterford experience in the management of a busy Emergency Department. Finally Dr. Helena Moore, Clinical Director, Kerry General Hospital, gave an overview of the management of Unscheduled Care from the perspective of the Bed Management Team in Kerry General hospital.
