Mallow General Hospital

 

Mallow General Hospital is part of the Cork University Hospital Group. Under reconfiguration of services Cork & Kerry, Mallow General Hospital has been designated a Model 2 Hospital.

MGH is a 54 bed acute general hospital providing inpatient, outpatient and day patient services. Services include acute in-patient medicine, a Medical Assessment Unit, an Injury Unit, an Endoscopy Suite and Theatre.

Hospital services are supported by Radiology, Laboratory, Physiotherapy, Cardiac Technician, Heart Failure Clinic, Pulmonary Function Lab and Sleep Studies Service, Speech and Language Therapy and Dietetics.

 

Services Overview 

Mallow General Hospital provides acute general hospital services to the people of North Cork. It has over 220 staff and an annual budget for 2016 of over €20.3 million. Its principal services are as follows:

 

Injury Unit – open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm

The Injury Unit treats adults and children over five years of age with minor injuries such as a suspected broken bone, a sprain, a facial injury or a minor scald or burn. Staff can take x-rays and apply plaster casts and stitches. You can go yourself to the Local Injury Unit or your GP (doctor) or SouthDoc can refer you. Medical Assessment Unit - open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm

The Medical Assessment Unit accepts referrals from GPs or Southdoc for people who have recent onset of symptoms. Your GP can also admit you directly to the Hospital outside of the opening hours if necessary. Visit Mallow Urgent Care Centre for further information.

 

Endoscopy Unit – The Endoscopy suite has 2 procedure rooms with associated first and second stage recovery bays providing endoscopy services including colonoscopy, OGD, Bronchoscopy and Transoesophageal echo (TOE).

 

Diagnostics – Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Endoscopy, Pulmonary Function Lab and Sleep Studies

 

Medical Services – Acute medicine, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology medicine, cardiology, respiratory medicine, medicine for the elderly.

 

Day Surgical Services – general surgery, dental surgery, urology, gynaecology, vascular and ENT surgery.

 

Women and Children’s Services – day gynaecology surgery and children’s outpatient clinics
