Details of the Post
The consultant will play a pivotal role in the development of paediatric palliative care in hospital and in the community in CHO 4, including the development of training programmes for medical, nursing and allied health professionals working in this area. They will work closely and collaboratively with the existing SPCTs in Cork and Kerry both in the acute hospital setting and in the community.
• The post-holder will support the expansion of services regionally thus helping ensure that all children with LLCs attending hospital will have access to the Paediatric Palliative
Care as needed.
• The consultant will also act as a resource to the community based Clinical Nurse Coordinators for Children with LLCs in CHO 4, thus further supporting children in receiving the best possible care in the community.
• The attachment to CUMH helps to ensure appropriate care and support for parents facing an antenatal diagnosis of a LLC and also for neonates born with a LLC, in
particular for those families who wish to take their baby home.
• The consultant will support the Obstetric and Neonatal/Paediatric MDT in caring for these families and their babies
• The 0.5 WTE general paediatric component of the post will function within the existing general paediatric service at CUH (scheduled and unscheduled care including on-call
and on-take)
