Neurology and Neurosurgery

In-patient Neurology and Neurosurgery:  Patients are initially assessed on the wards, following referral from their consultant. They receive specialised rehabilitation on the wards or in the gym based on the needs of their condition.

Out-patient Neurology and Neurosurgery: A programme of rehabilitation is provided for discharged in-patients and consultant referred out-patients from the local area. It involves the assessment, education and treatment of patients with neurological conditions. Treatment is aimed at improving strength, balance and physical function.Where possible patients are referred to a community physiotherapist closer to home for outpatient treatment.

Outpatient exercise classes, specifically designed for patients with Parkinson's disease, or patients who have had a stroke are run regularly throughout the year. Patients are assessed for suitability for these classes by their physiotherapist. The classes are aimed at improving strength, balance and physical fitness.

Patients with multiple sclerosis are referred to community based exercise classes for similar type follow up.
