Acute Unselected Medical Take Service (AUMS)
The AUMS, formally referred to as General Internal Medicine Service, is that component of patient care provided at CUH to patients with medical problems not previously, or not easily, categorised as appropriate for immediate attention from a Specialist Medical Take Service. All of the division's specialties currently participate in the on-call rota for the Acute Unselected Medical Take service.
The AUMS is delivered on a rostered rational basis by the specialist teams in the division of Internal Medicine. Registrars and SHO's from other specialist services also participate. The majority of AUMS patients present via the Emergency Department with whom the division works in a close and mutually supporting relationship. It is however preferable that general Practitioners contact the Medical Registrar on call for the day to discuss patients that are being referred and facilitate direct admission of patients who are for admission via the Admissions Office.
