CUH Volunteer Service

CUH Volunteer Meet and Greet (M&G) Service

The CUH Volunteer Service commenced in March 2025. The Meet and Greet (M&G) Volunteer service is based at the main hospital entrance and the Emergency Department pedestrian entrance. The availability of the meet and greet service is dependent on the availability of volunteers.

The M&G Volunteer provides a visitor to CUH with verbal directions to destinations within CUH campus, and can also accompany the visitor.

The M&G Volunteer also provides a Sit Secure service: a driver coming to CUH for an appointment with an individual who has poor mobility or is frail, can phone ahead and ask for a volunteer to sit with the individual in the Main Hospital reception until the driver has parked the car. The volunteer sits with the individual in the main reception and does not escort the individual to their appointment. Please phone switch to 021 454 6400 to enquire about an available volunteer. Service offered between 9am and 5pm, Mon to Fri. Service dependant on availability of the M&G volunteers.

The M&G Volunteer also provides a Book gifting service: a M&G volunteer will visit patients on the wards and offer the patient the gift of a pre-loved book (or magazine if available) to read. Visits by the M&G volunteer will be in line with Infection Control practice on every ward. Donations of pre-loved books welcome to the Quality and Patient Safety dept.

The Befriending Volunteer service involves volunteers visiting patients on the wards. This service provides social engagement, and available to patients referred to the service by nursing or medical staff. The Service dependant on availability of the Befriending volunteers.
