Foot Health

The Physiotherapy Team provide a service for patients with musculoskeletal injuries affecting their foot & ankle. We typically see patients after a traumatic injury who may or may not have required surgery. Some of the common conditions we see patients for include foot and ankle fractures, foot and ankle sprain, metatarsalgia (forefoot pain). This is to name just a few!

The role of the physiotherapist:

Your Physiotherapist will complete a musculoskeletal and biomechanical assessment. They may also recommend footwear and/or insoles (orthotics).

Any assessment usually involves looking at walking, body movement and strength.

Treatment may include any of the following:

  • Education about your condition
  • Exercise Prescription including stretching and strengthening
  • Footwear and Orthotic prescription and modification

The aim is to restore as near to normal function as possible and at the same time limit further problems.

How to access the service:

Our patients may be outpatients who visit the clinic or an inpatient on a ward. We only accept referrals for patients under Cork University Hospital consultant care and from staff within Cork University Hospital.
